Use the T.E.A.R model in 2 contexts, 1 for undesirable results that are happening and 2 for results you, or a team member wants to achieve.
For Undesirable Results: Start in the results box and work backwards by asking the following questions:
- What are the undesirable results turning up?
- What actions or non actions created these results?
- How must I have been feeling to have taken or not taken those actions?
- What must I have been thinking in order to feel that way? * Gives you access to your thoughts/beliefs – are they empowering you? Or getting in the way?
For Desirable Results you/team member wants: Start in the results box and work backwards by asking the following questions:
- What is the result I want and why do I really want it?
- What is the shortest path of actions I can take to achieve this result?
- What actions must I stop to taking to achieve the result?
- In order to take those actions how would I need to be feeling (emotions)?
- In order to stop identified actions that will get in the way of me achieving the result….how would I need to be feeling?
- In order to be feeling that way – What would I need to be thinking? What would I need to believe to think that way? What do you need to let go of to adopt this new line of thinking?
